California Clay Conference this weekend! This weekend (Friday April 29 through Sunday May 1) I am participating with Solano College in the California Clay Conference here in Davis. I will be showing my latest Shino stoneware work as part of an exhibit with other Solano College artists. Shino is a traditional Japanese glaze that traps carbon when fired to high temperatures in an oxygen-reduction atmosphere. Painting over the glaze with wax before firing interrupts the carbon trapping process and often leaves a reddish-goldish design. The final surface results with this kind of shino glazing are unpredictable and can be quite beautiful. I would be honored if you could stop by my exhibit sometime this coming Friday, Saturday or Sunday at 912 5th St. (right next to the RR tracks). Over 30 California colleges will be exhibiting their work at venues all over downtown Davis. You can pick up a gallery map at Natsoulos Gallery (1st & E) or you can just wander, following the signs. If you go on Friday evening there will be refreshments pretty much everywhere you go. Hope you can make it! Exhibit Hours: Friday 9am-9pm Saturday 9am-7pm Sunday 9am-1pm.
